Le femmine possono arrivare a 30 anni di età, mentre i maschi di solito non superano i 5 anni. Il loro habitat è costituito dalle foreste decidue del Messico meridionale. Cacciano, di notte e al crepuscolo, grossi insetti, ma anche rane, lucertole e topolini. Si trovano nella categoria “vicino alla minaccia” all’interno della lista rossa della IUCN e nell’Appendice II della CITES.
Mexican redknee tarantula
The females of this species can live up to 30 years, but the males tend to live for only 5 years or so. Their natural habitat is in deciduous tropical forests in the hilly southwestern Mexico. Mexican red-knee tarantulas prey on large insects, frogs and mice. These spiders are considered “near threatened” by the IUCN and are on Appendix II of CITES, which limits trade of individuals between countries.
