Crotalo oregano
Vive in zone aride della regione del Great Basin, negli Stati Uniti occidentali. Preferisce le zone rocciose esposte a sud ma si trova anche in praterie, campi e aree collinari. Gli adulti superano di rado il metro di lunghezza. Si nutre prevalentemente di mammiferi e uccelli, della taglia adeguata, ma caccia anche lucertole e anfibi. La femmina partorisce 3-13 neonati, completamente autosufficienti. Il veleno di questa sottospecie è stato poco studiato ma è generalmente pericoloso per l’uomo, con effetti spesso molto seri che necessitano di immediato trattamento ospedaliero.
Great Basin Rattlesnake
Inhabits the dry and barren areas of the Great Basin region, in the U.S., being found on hills, summits and old lake benches. Adult specimens rarely exceed 1 meter in length. This rattlesnake, like many other north american species, feeds on mammals, birds, lizards and frogs. Young are born alive in broods of 3 to 13. The venom of this subspecies has not been studied very much but is generally very potent and the effects can be very dangerous if not immediately cured.
